Explicación e ilustración en Español al final.

EVA is one of the numerous civil initiatives for self-managed civil centres sprouting in Madrid in the last decade demanding civil participation and co-management of the commons in the capital. Here is EVA’s foundational project (in Spanish). However, this specific case is relevant for its interesting history of different relationships with the local administration as government teams changed, reaching an agreement for temporal cession of part of the former Fruits and Vegetables market in 2016.

Integrating a bigger national network of civil centres, the Red de Espacios Ciudadanos, EVA promotes knowledge and experience sharing on collaborative governance and organization and is open for new neighbours and organizations to join and participate to keep growing the project.

Acording to EVA, in 2016 already more than 44 associations and professional organizations supported the initiative, and more than 500 users were attending their activities weekly.

If you’re curious about EVA and want to know more about the movement and the history of the former Fruits and Vegetables Market, read the paper written by by Clara Medina G showing the results of the research carried out in 2018 as part of the Master in Human Settlements.
